My Recent Trip to Moscow

Guest written by our friend Trent Horton

For a long time I was dreaming about the trip to Moscow and this year my dreams came true. I have thecable tv offers around California at home with 4 programs in Russian and they are transferring them from Moscow through New York. Sometimes I get nostalgic viewing sites of Moscow because I had been living 6 years near it and had been visiting it every weekend.

I live in the USA for 2, 5 years as a permanent resident. But every year I visit my relatives who live in Russia and my friends who live in Ukraine. This spring I managed even to go to Moscow. I was dreaming about that visit for years. But I shall start from the beginning. I bought the tickets on line for the flight to Kiev first. Kiev is a very beautiful city, the capital of Ukraine. There is a lot interesting places to see in Kiev. When I was through with all businesses in Ukraine, I went on the train to the town in Russia where my relatives live. (By the way travelling by train is much cheaper than travelling by plane. So if you know Russian language well you can visit several cities in Ukraine and Russia using the train.) We went together with my daughter and granddaughter on the train to Moscow at night. We arrived at 6 o'clock in the morning in Moscow.

We took the metro to get to the Red Square. We visited Moscow before the Victory Day, on the eve of 65th anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War. So I took the pictures of Kremlin and St. Basil's Cathedral. We bought the tickets to visit the territory of Kremlin. I was really very happy. My dreams came true.

An Apple a Day

An apple a day, keeps the Doctor away!
I'm sick of that saying!
I am so sick of eating apple everyday....
because that is all I eat.
It's apple picking season folks... in this part of my world!
How about in yours?

Guest post written by Ivy Dougers

Taking kids to a college football game would be a nightmare for a lot of people, but me and my husband manage somehow. We have twin 5 year olds and they love going to football games with us because they're so energetic. Sometimes I get weary chasing after them because we waited a while to have kids but I still love doing it.

They have a little festival the few hours before each home game where they set up a bunch of kids-geared stuff on the campusÕs quad. There are things like inflatable slides and . Before the season opener we took the twins there to blow off some steam before we would have to go and sit in the stand for a few hours and they got in line for the slide. I thought I'd be able to go and get a drink while they were doing that but I ended up having to stand near because I couldn't hear well enough to feel OK about them sliding on the slide.

When we got home from the ball game i decided that maybe I need hearing aides to keep up so I bought them.
Now I feel better about going out in public with them and being aware of what's going on around us.

My Liliw... The incessant journey ahead

After so many years of steadfast acceptance in the supply and demand cycle and gaining impressive reputation among satisfied clients from different parts of the country, their goody-old “tsinelas” is still around and here to stay.

The year 2002 marked a yet another momentous phase in the history of the ever thriving and hard working Liliwenos. An important event paved the way for the introduction of the “Liliw-made-slippers” into the national consciousness. And this has given the long overdue and well-deserved recognition of the Liliwenos’ pride and joy…”ang tsinelas”!

Through the astounding effort of the local Government headed by Mayor Jonathan Polistico, the “First Liliw Tsinelas Festival” was celebrated to show the country that the Liliwenos have something good to offer. The event did not only place this humble town in the limelight but also gained the trust and confidence of no other than the president of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on the Liliwenos’ craftsmanship and expertise.

Author’s Note: This is the Part 3 of the 4-part excerpt from the write-up featured on the Liliw Tsinelas Festival Souvenir Program published in 2003 written by yours truly. This is my tribute to my dear hometown and part of the Meme “Our Philippines”. TO READ THE PART 2 OF THIS EXCERPT... CLICK HERE.

Quick and Easy

My brother works as a designer and visual merchandiser in China. As a designer, he designs all kinds of home decorative products for export. As a visual merchandiser, he arranges the products in such a way that costumers will see how the products will be used or displayed in their own homes. As both a designer and merchandiser, he joins different trade shows in different places and countries to showcase their products. And that’s where the real hard work sets in. Well, that was when he has not heard about pop up booths yet.

Good thing that he found cool trade show pop up and pop up display that he can use to present their products. Unlike before where he has to drag all his heavy equipment sand paraphernalias to set up a booth… now he only needs an EZ Up frame canopy or an accordion type that opens up easily. He only needs to hang a fabric or graphic panels to the frame and he instantly gets a background that he needs to accentuate his products. He can even convert those frames into podium stand, add a plastic or wood top on it and finish it off by surrounding the case with graphic or fabric wrap that matches his products.

And with these awesome pop up displays, he said…his product presentation pops up quick and easy.

Girls night out- Going to the movies!

Thanks for the guest post by Jonathan Curtis

So the time has officially arrived, it's almost girl's night out! I can't wait for the weekend to get here so me and the girls can get together and go see one of the latest, greatest flicks! It's going to be a blast!

For those of you that don't know, usually once a month the girls and I get together for a ladies only night out on the town. We love to go to different places in different cities and see what the theaters are like. This month we've decided to head to the movie theater in Toledo, Ohioto see one of those new gushy girlie flicks that none of our boyfriends want to see. Works out better than way for all of us, plus this means that we can share the box of tissues!

Since it's just girls night, we always splurge and get lots of candy and snacks to share. I bet the concessions workers must think we are crazy with all the food that we buy! I'm sure they don't mind though, especially not if they work on commission!

I love getting all dressed up for the movies too, even though we're going to be in the dark most of the time we ladies like to dress to impress! Hope I remember to set our ultimate Home Security alarm this time!
