The Artistic Side of Me

Are you a creative person? I ask because for a while I doubted myself of being creative. My brother Gary is an artist. He gets paid for doing creative things. He is a designer. Actually, one of his daughters is a graduating college student who's taking an Art Course. She and Dad are the real artists of the family. But all of Gary's kids (all 4 of them) are good with their hands in creating beautiful art pieces. They all got his genes.

My other brother,Japol, is an artist too. He can draw and paint beautiful pictures and take lots of awesome photographs that were published in the National Newspaper. He is an art enthusiast too. He graces a lot of art exhibits back home. And most of my cousins in my father's side are good at Art too. So we can say that we are a family of artists, in our own right.

Me, on the other hand, is more into doodling and drawing at times. I have to admit, I have a passion for the Art too but it depends on my mood though. But I don't really consider myself as an artist "artist". If you know what I mean.

For the longest time, I just call it a hobby because for me it is just what it is.

But when people see my artworks, they say that I'm a good artist. The only problem is, I don't believe them. Maybe because I compare myself with my brothers and cousins. I'm not even comfortable in showing my art pieces to anyone until recently.

Well, let's say that my hands are always busy creating things. But that doesn't make one an artist, right? So I decided to check in with myself today to see if I can manifest anything here.

I do paint. Most Artists paint. And I signed my paintings too just like all the artists. I signed my paintings with "Achoot" because it is how my brothers and my cousins call me. They still call me that name to this day.

Here are some of the paintings I painted back home. They are still there collecting dust.

I make tiny sculptures made of polymer clay which I only discovered I can do such cute things when I was working with kids at the play dough station at work.

I started making them and got crazy to the point of spending hundreds of dollar in materials. The good thing is I was able to sell them to Craft Fairs. It wasn't instant though. I only realized I needed to do something about that stuff I made because they went out of hand. The Craft Fair was not intentional. I just needed to declutter. But it went well. Boy, I was glad it did.

 Cheeseburger Stud Earrings, anyone?
My Cat Bookmark.

I can also draw pictures using technology. I bought an iPad Pro for no reason.  But Boy, it was a game changer. I can do a lot of things with it and hope to make money out of it too.
Designing my Business Cards for the upcoming Craft Show.

Sketching with technology is fun.

And recently, I discovered Mandala Art. So I bought those Mandala Coloring books to start with. Little did I know that I can't color. Yup, you heard it right. I CAN'T color Mandala pictures? It's giving me a headache. I get stressed-out once I started coloring because of so many details. So I stopped.

The funny thing is, I also discovered that instead of coloring mandala pictures, I can draw my own. When I draw a mandala picture, the world seems to stop spinning. I could draw for hours without eating and not getting hungry or tired.

Now, it's my go-to activity to destress. Mandala drawing helps me stay out of trouble. And it helps me CASH IN some moolah.

And lastly, I also do photography. I enjoy photography just like my brothers and at some point, I dream to be a professional in that aspect. But I don't know if I have the time to do that or how I can do that.

Anyway, with all these things said, I can proudly say that I am indeed an ARTIST IN MY OWN RIGHT! In fact, I have a Facebook Page specially dedicated to all my artwork and to my photography.

So yeah, like most Artists, I'm weird too. I'm still a little bit shy about my talent and still battling with this idea of the word "Artist" thingy. But now that I am so deep into this thing about "knowing myself deeper and accepting who I am" I'm kinda getting a little comfortable into calling myself an Artist. But I know it will manifest eventually.

My God-Given Talent is something I didn't ask. If there is one talent that I really like to have is being a Great Singer. Yes, that's the talent that I really want to have. But my Creator knows what is best for me. I may not be as good as the others but I know it's only practice that sets me apart from the rest. And yes time.
