The Product of my Imagination!

Designing mode Update! I finally did it!

Some of you already know that I love creating stuff. A week ago, I signed up for Teachers Pay Teachers website where you can buy and download tons of teaching materials that can used in the classroom. Well, all products that can be downloaded there are made by teachers. And since I make some teaching materials for my students I thought... "why not sign up for TPT so I can cash in some happine$$$!"
This is the result of my creative exploration for this week.

So if you want to get the product of my imagination... CLICK HERE to a  FREE Digital Download of my first ever design at TPT.

Designing Mode

The creative bug bites once again. So I'm back on designing. Well, I am not a "designer-designer". I just like the sound of it. I'm more of a pretentious designer. And when I talk about designing, most of the time I use my computer to create.
Oh yeah, I'm a little computer savvy on this aspect only. I have designed my websites' template as one of my portfolios. It's more of a hobby for me. Since I love digital scrapbooking, I decided to make my own background design that I can use for my scrapbooking instead of downloading works of other artists.

Sundate with my BFF

Last Sunday, I picked up my BFF Medy and we went to church. It was a touching service for us because the Priest said a special prayer for Medy and my Philippines. The people we met at the church were sympathetic too when they found out that we are Filipinos.
My BFF - Medy.

After the Mass Service, we drove straight to Portland to have lunch. We had Thai and our tummies were happy.

My 1st Wedding Hair and Make-up Job

Years ago, I did a few Hair and Make-up stints with some former students, friends and family for some special occasions like; graduation, beauty contests, wedding and whatever occasion they need to look good and "made-up". Yes, they were my first Guinea Pigs back then. And that was my on-the-job training so technically speaking, I'm a pro. LOL

Here in Maine, I did my very first Wedding Hair and Make-Up job when my step-daughter Steph got married last May. I was kinda nervous because I was afraid that she might not like it.
Prepping Steph's hair.

Week before her wedding date, we did a "hair and make-up rehersal" so we would know how the hair style she wants would look on her and what make-up technique will suit her. So on the day of the wedding we already knew what look we want to achieve.

Nude or Red? Foundation or Tinted Moisturizer?

I was late for church last Sunday so I cut 2 steps in my regular 5-minute make up routine. Here are the details.
Instead of using regular moisturizer I opted for tinted moisturizer by VS (I got it for free because I received a free gift card from VS) mixed with NYC Smooth Skin Perfecting Primer. When I do this technique, I don't use any more foundation.

Brown Rice Rhapsody

I switched from Jasmine rice to brown rice since last year. I read somewhere that there more health benefits that you can get from eating brown rice.
I cooked my rice in the rice cooker. Instead of water, I use vegetable broth to add flavor. There are times I would prefer to eat plain brown rice with whatever dish available.
I like veggies with my brown rice. I usually get the frozen veggies and stir-fry them with olive oil, Mrs. Dash's salt-free seasoning and Italian seasoning. I like to eat this stir-fry veggie with boiled eggs or grilled meat (chicken, poor, or beef) or as is.
And most of the time, I would mix the brown rice and stir-fry veggie up. Together, I come up with one dish that I sometimes eat with other dish or just it.
And I called it Brown Rice Rhapsody.

My New Sugar Rush

This is no new to a lot of people I know. And just like them, I am drawn to this new addiction too. Well, kinda. My Sweetest thinks I will soon acquired diabetes through this.

Well, sometime we need some addiction. wink*** I work 12 hours a day, I need sweet to "pick me up". But since I am shying away from high fructose and corn syrup and all things sweet... this is the closest I can get to a candy bar. So bite me! LOL

And yes, just like anything I got addicted to... I will surely get tired of this sooner or later and will find a new one to get hooked on.

HELP for my Philippines

More than a couple of weeks ago I was surprised when my co-workers asked me how my family was in the Philippines. Unknown to me, my beloved Philippines was hit by an earthquake that caused terrible destruction to Bohol and its neighboring towns. I was touched by the concern of my co-workers. I felt their concern for me and my family.

But since I was out of the house too early (I leave for work at 5:30 am everyday) I had no chance to know what happened because I don't usually watch the news first thing in the morning because Hubby is still sleeping by then. So, I googled it and I found out that it was where my friend Medy's brothers are based.
This is the church where Medy and here used to go to attended mass services and Flores de Mayo when she was little.

I called Medy to check on her and we were relieved when we found out that they were ok though the place she knew from the heart is no longer what it used to be. She can't be too happy either since she has not talked to any of her brothers due to lack of means of communication. And for us Filipino Migrants who still have family and loved ones back home, it's just too frustrating not knowing what's going on or whatever happen to our loved ones until we hear from them. I can just feel my friend's pain.
The aftermath of the destructive earthquake

Today, it is disheartening to watch on national television how the same place have to suffer yet another destruction where more lives are claimed. And  just like the first one, I wasn't aware of the phenomenal event that was about to happen to my beloved Philippines until I read my Hubby's message in FB. And likewise, my co-workers showed their concern again for me and my family back home. I felt so blessed to belong to such a wonderful and caring community.

I googled again and found out the same thing. Of all places... c'mon, my Philippines has 7,107 why Bohol again? Why not those islands that are not inhabited or those owned by corrupt politicians who bought the islands out of ill-gotten wealth? That was my instant reaction.

Please watch this. Video Credit: Typhoon Haiyan

As a Filipino migrant, I can only do so much. I can only talk about it. I can just write about it. And I can simply sympathize. I am grateful though that my family and loved ones are all safe. We live in the biggest island which is 500 miles away from Tacloban which is the city directly hit by typhoon. But my "kababayans" (countrymen) who are affected by this phenomenal typhoon Haiyan can only be in my thoughts and prayers. I do wish I can do more for them.

But I need to do something to HELP them. And the only way I know how is through social media. So through here I am begging you my friends to please help my Philippines... please DONATE and GIVE HOPE to the Filipinos.

Here is a LIST of CHARITABLE INSTITUTIONS in the Philippines and the UNICEF link where you can donate and send help to the Filipinos.

And through here, I want to thank you all in advance for your kindness and gracious hearts. I also would like to thank my The Salitype Society Sistahs who serve as inspirations to me... especially Betchai of The Joys of Simple Life and Kulasa of The Letters in November who are selflessly initiated this kind of outreach program for our kababayans.

Author's Note:
Thank you in advance for helping my kababayans. If you choose to help, you may choose any of the links I highlighted here. Let it be known too that none of the links are directly associated to me. They are all authorized and reputable non-profit organizations that are created and founded to send relief to countries all over the world that need help. With the current graft and corruption issues my Philippines is facing, it is worth knowing and finding out if the organizations are legit and for real to be sure that help reach those people who do need them. Again, Thank you.

My 5-minutes Routine

Here is another 5-minutes make-up routine that I did last Sunday. However, since I was already late for church, I cut down on applying a couple of products that I used with the first tutorial that I did.
As always, I started with a moisturizer. Then proceeded with the foundation. This time I didn't use my CC cream but instead I used a primer mixed up with the foundation. I skipped the loose powder too and applied bronzer right away. Next was contouring.
Here are my mug shots. Notice that even if I skipped a couple of products, my blemishes are unnoticeable since the foundation gave full coverage.
After I prepped my face, I fixed my unruly brows and applied light eye shadows in natural tone. This time though, I put a little eye liner to enhance my eyes and to make them appear bigger. Then finished it up with mascara.
Here is the finished look. I don't look tired at all considering that I stayed up late that night before.
And after 4 hours, of running errands after church service... this is how I look like. The foundation still holds on.

I must Taho!

If you are a true-blooded Pinoy (colloquial term for Filipino) you know what this is. This could be my breakfast. It could replace my coffee (though I don't drink coffee). It could be my snack. It could be my comfort food per se.

Taho - is a must... when you come to visit my Philippines. And taho - should be... when you are a Pinoy coming home for a visit.

Look who's back... on FB!

Last year, I said goodbye to FB. I decided to deactivate my FB account for varied reasons. Now, I'm back.

Yesterday, I decided to activate my FB account for varied reasons too. That is why I'm back.

I believe that there are things we can't live without like: family, love, peace, hope, money (?), friends, food, water, air, sun, moon, stars... and the list can go on and on. Geez... there are a lot of things we can't live without, huh. But Facebook is not on the list. Not for me at least. Though I also believe that there are people who cannot live without it. People who breathe, eat, drink and po*p Facebook. LOL

Though I do believe that I can live without it, on the contrary, I know that I cannot run away from it forever. Social media takeover is something inevitable. And that is a fact. This is the age of social media revolution and if we want to take advantage of whatever it can offer us for our own benefits, we need to grab it. I need social media for my blogs (All 100 of it. Just kidding, I only have 7 active ones) to reach my readers and to keep them afloat the blog-o-sphere.

And so I am back. But I had to admit, I miss my friends and family when I left FB. I miss their updates and photos of family and friends. And I miss their comments. Likewise, I didn't really care about the drama and the shallowness of other people in FB. No offense meant. And I don't care what you bought, what you ate, what you are wearing and I don't care about your selfies. I don't judge them. I just don't really care.

But I do care when people post something sensible. I care about people's achievements whether in education and social endeavors, health and fitness, wealth and success, food and nutrition, and happy family gathering. I care about people celebrating victories and sympathizing with losses and failures. I care about these kinds of drama where people show compassion and love.

Now, I'm back. At first I was hesitant. I was afraid that people don't care about me too. LOL Ironic? I wonder if I was missed. And I was excited to catch up with old friends and loved ones. And yes, in 24 hours... 85 people liked my photos and 23 people sent me heart-felt messages. I guess, there are people who care about me after all. And yes, those people are the people I care about too that is why I am so back!

My 1st Make-Over Tutorial (and Mug Shots)

I am not a professional make-up artist. The title fo this post should not even be "My 1st Make-Up Tutorial" in the first place. What was I thinking? LOL

Anyway, I just want to share something I do on a daily basis. Actually, I wish I could say something like - "I received a lot of letters from people asking me how I do my make-up..."  but I can't because it is not true. hahahaha But I am doing this tutorial anyways to give my millions (bluffing alert!) of readers an unsolicited advice on make-up application.

So here we go. I provided photos of each step with corresponding product I used in each step. This make-up application is easy-breezy so no skill required just some make-up products and mirror. It takes only 5 minutes to apply.

I start with a clean face and a moisturizer. I use St. Ives. It's the product recommended by Dr. Oz. I really don't know if it is effective for me because all the moisturizers that I have used so far have not given me any skin problem. So there is no point of comparison.
In most make-up tutorial blogs that I read and even those I watched in You Tube, it is highly recommended to use moisturizer before applying make up. The moisturizer serves as primer too so applying make-up is easier because it gives the face a smooth surface. Here, you can still see my blemishes. (yuck!) [Geez... I think my photo looks like a mug shot of an arrested woman for DUI. LOL.]
After moisturizer I put on CC cream by Hard Candy. It's kinda like the famous BB cream, the only difference is  - it has different letters. It's an all-in-one correction cream that acts as primer, moisturizer, foundation and who-knows. Here you can notice that my blemishes are not completely gone but somehow unnoticeable. It also gives a radiant looking skin. [This photo looks like a mug shot of a woman arrested for falsification of public documents  LOL]
I asked a Sales Associates of MAC make-up at the Mall one time what the BB cream is for and she told me that it's just another fancy thing that you can put on your face to look pretty. Well, something to that effect. She said it in a fancy way of course but that's how I interpreted it. Anyway, she told me too that BB cream will not give me enough coverage due to my skin type. Still, I interpreted it differently. After the CC cream I  apply liquid foundation for full coverage. Now, you will notice that my blemishes are almost non-existent but I look ghostly. I need to tone down my color. [This photo looks like a mug shot of a woman arrested for speeding and resisting arrest.]
To tone down my ghostly look, I applied loose powder all over my face. This gave me a natural look effect, I think. Notice too that I also prepped my brows to tame them. Oh geez, they are so wild and out-of-control. [This mug shot is a woman arrested for bouncing checks. LOL]
So these are the mug shots of my before and after make-up application. Notice that my blemishes are almost invisible to the naked eyes and my face looks flawless, doesn't it? wink*** Notice the difference with my brows. [I will have a separate follow-up post for that.] But this isn't finish yet.
Then I applied ELF Healthy Glow Bronzer all over my face and put some colors or eye shadow on my eyes too. I also applied a couple layers of mascara  to enhance my eyes. [This is now a mug shot of a woman arrested for selling fake goods.]
Lastly, I applied bronzing powder to contour my cheekbones and to add shape to my face. [This doesn't look like a mug shot anymore, does it?]
Then, with a huge ELF powder brush, I brushed my whole face to blend the bronzer and to shake off excess powder to achieve smoothness and a more natural look. I finished off by applying a nude lipstick. Now, this is no longer a mug shot of a woman arrested for any type of misdemeanor but a woman who needed to comb her hair. Arggg!] LOL

----------------------------Thursday 2 Questions-----------------------------

My Two Questions and Thursday Thoughts to ponder:

1. If you are a woman: Do you wear make up? If you are a man: Do you like women wearing make-up?
2. If you are a woman or a man: Do you have any skin care routine?

I'm an ELF Girl

I'm a girly-girl. I wear all things girly. And I put anything girly. That includes make-up. I am lucky that I'm blessed with healthy skin and I don't have to deal with skin problems. Though I do experience breakouts every now and then but I don't think breakouts like me much so they will be gone in two days tops.
My new stash.

I don't usually buy expensive make-ups. And if I do have expensive make-ups they are either gifts or I got them on clearance.
Recently, through blog hops and pinterest and you tubes, I discovered some products that I once ignored for 2 reasons. 1. They are "cheap". Not-so-wise thinking dictates that cheap items are poor or low quality. So I shun from it for fear that I may ruin my skin.
2. I don't know anybody who can vouch on the quality or effectiveness of the items. If I have not seen any commercial about the products it means that they are not effective or worth buying since they are cheap enough to even promote it.
But I was glad that I was brave enough to try on the E.L.F. products that getting popular and good reviews in blog-o-sphere and highly recommended in pinterest and you tube.
Now I am a happy E.L.F. Girl. And NO - I am not the new Spokesperson for the product nor got paid for blogging about it. Oh, how I wish!
But I am just happy that these products work so well on my skin and my pocket.

Let's get accessorized

Well, let me educate you in the understanding of human nature most specifically speaking… the female species. Naks! And let me be more specific about the female species and talk about one specific aspect of them – the fashion sense [or senses because there is more to it, I believe].

NOTE: Let me warn you first before I proceed. This is only my personal opinion and does not intend to influence others so ignore me if you must.

There are three factors that a woman needs to know to justify their wrong doings.

1. NECESSITY. Accessories like bags, shoes, and jewelries [just to name a few] are essential to a woman’s total personality because they make them beautiful and most importantly- happy. No argument, period!

2. SAFETY. Women need to accessories to be able to live more comfortably and safely because accessories can help avert evil. For instance, your killer stiletto can literally kill someone who is trying to steal your 3 karats diamond earrings. And,

3. INVESTMENT. In times of depression, be it the economic aspect where you are laid off from work or the emotional aspect where you feel down and needs some pick-me-up, accessories can save the day. You can sell your most priced accessories and earned cash or you can brag about them to make other women jealous and that… is a great "pick-me-up".

Well, don’t alienate us women for being so materialistic. In this shallow worldly life of commercialism there is one thing to keep in mind… life is empty without shopping. hahahaha
So Happy Shopping to all!

Autumn 2013

With 2 jobs and working 12 hours a day, all I want to do on a weekend is to spend one whole day in my PJs and stay in bed without guilt feeling. I wish I still have the time to do any photowalk like I used to.
Luckily, I was invited to a pre-Halloween Party in New Hampshire last weekend and was able to take some awesome photos of Fall 2013. Though I still preferred to stay home that day, spending a day with some Filipina friends was a rare change that I can swap with my PJs.
